body
BACKGROUND:
The Scallop Plan Team met in Kodiak on February 22, 2017 to review the status of the weathervane scallop stocks in Alaska, to prepare the Stock Assessment and Fishery Evaluation (SAFE) report (Item 1), and to recommend an ABC harvest specification. These minutes from the Scallop Plan Team meeting are attached (Item 2) which include discussions of ocean acidification and data-poor management methods, which were special presentations at the meeting and are not included in the SAFE report itself. Additional attachments include the ADF&G aging protocol for scallops (Item 3) and the report of the 2016 ADF&G dredge survey (Item 4).
The SAFE report provides an overview of scallop management, scallop harvests and the status of the regional weathervane scallop stocks. Scallop stocks are neither overfished nor approaching an overfished condition.
