Review sectors reports on BSAI Halibut PSC measures
Body
BACKGROUND
In February 2014, the Council reviewed a discussion paper on a number of issues related to usage of Pacific halibut prohibited species catch (PSC) in the Bering Sea/Aleutian Islands (BSAI) groundfish fisheries. As one of several next steps to address halibut PSC usage, the Council requested reports from five BSAI groundfish sectors (American Fisheries Act Catcher Processor, American Fisheries Act Catcher Vessel, Amendment 80, Freezer Longline Cooperative, and Community Development Quota) on progress for voluntarily implementing measures in their cooperative and/or inter-cooperative agreements to minimize halibut PSC, including:
• Development of effective and verifiable measures for halibut avoidance and
• Individual accountability and use of incentives to reduce PSC.
Representatives from each sector will provide brief summaries. Written reports, if submitted to the Council, were posted online.
