BACKGROUND:
Staff will provide a written update on progress with developing the Bering Sea Fishery Ecosystem Plan (FEP) at this meeting. This update summarizes the FEP starting point from December 2015, when the Council initiated the development of a Bering Sea FEP, and describes how that starting point stands in comparison to more recent FEP guidance that has come out from NMFS, and from a Lenfest report published last year. The Council created an FEP team in December 2016 as a scientific and technical team to write the FEP, working closely with the Council’s Ecosystem Committee, and at this meeting staff will provide an update on their discussions to date, and future planning.
