BACKGROUND:
The Crab Plan Team met January 9-11, 2018 to review the stock assessment for Norton Sound red king crab and recommend OFL and ABC for this stock. The introduction to the SAFE report for this stock and the assessment itself is attached. In addition, the CPT also discussed a number of additional topics to reduce uncertainty in crab stock assessments: methods to assess distributions of reference points and model weighting; estimation of survey catchability, recruitment, bycatch, and male maturity; uncertainty in Total Allowable Catch management strategies; and stock structure.
